Valar Morghulis and Entropia Universe

Valar Morghulis

Yes, you got it right – I was busy last few months reading the books of A Song of Ice and Fire. If you don’t know this is the book version of A Game of Thrones. That’s 4273 pages of names and dead people.

And before I start writing for Entropia Universe today may be I have to make disclosure. It is possible that at the time you are reading this I am making money from this game. Ok, now let’s start.

But I was still keeping an eye on Entropua Universe news. And there is both a lot new stuff and still everything is how it was. Depends if you are optimist or pessimist. Pessimist will see that Planet Cyrene and Planet Toulan are about 4 years late on the hard launch date. Soft launch was when small portion of the planet was released after few years of development and hard launch was promised to happen soon may be in 2012-2013. It didn’t happen. You can wonder if someone decided to stop the project to minimum or to wait until the planet is in perfect condition to go for hard launch with massive advertising campaign and everything. And not much to see in the opposing direction. Planet Cyrene is moving forward with the dynamic map upgrades, but it is very slow development speed.

Pessimist will see that Calypso Land Deed (CLD) ROI is going down and this is the primary indicator for the health of the game. There were also weeks with 0 CLD payment. In contrast to this all Arkadia Underground Deeds (AUD) were sold and their price went up by 40%. That means that people voted with 1 million from their US Dollars that they like Planet Arkadia and believe the Underground will do better and better.

Also the development of the citizen system goes extremely slow. You can grab your plot in 2015 and you will have to wait 5 years before you can do anything with it. Good news is that it will be available on other planets too and will make players feel more at home when they actually build some structure in the game.

Monria failed to get on Steam and later was sold I think on loss. Not much else happening there, but let’s hope the new owners will have more passion and money to continue development of the Moon.

Planet Arkadia as always is the golden bow of Entropia Universe. Making unique content and actually make you feel like you treasure hunt on the planet is fresh feeling that most people that watched Indiana Jones as kids like. You have plenty of opportunities to hunt for treasures there and get your daily dose of endorphins.

Planet Rocktropia as usually get some negative comments for its content, but it is the planet that connects Entropia to Hollywood and Neverdie makes a lot of stunts to get the game in the news so he does good job in the end. And if you don’t like shooting zombies just don’t go there.

Space as always is pushed for the next year for development, but what can you do. May be if more people spend their peds there it will get more attention from the developers.

MindArk provide Entropia Platform to some online casinos and this is good news for me. Even if they are on loss from the game they will not shut it down if they make enough money from the platform they provide to other companies.

And let’s not forget the ComPet game is coming after 2 months. One more game to play in the office and hopefully more players will come to Entropia Universe.

This got too long, let’s stop here and continue tomorrow with State of the Universe Address 2016.

CLD price is too low

In one of my post I was concerned that the price of Arkadia Underground Deeds is too high and the payouts will decrease making the Calypso Land Deeds better and obvious choice for investment. And everything is still true. AUD are selling even for 10% less than their initial value.

The only thing left out of the equation is the time. With time the price of CLD is and will be going up slowly but surely. It was 130 USD at the time of AUD, now is around 140 USD. And some day it will hit 200$ per 1 CLD. And somewhere at that point investing in AUD is going to be better than investing in CLD. And it will all start to balance itself. When CLD price rise and with will (probably) the price of AUD will rise also.

So if I can change my statement from ‘AUD price is too high’ to ‘CLD price is too low’.

The price of CLD will be linked to price of everything in the game. Once the price gets too big to be good investment (and this will probably happen after 2-3 years) investors will move their peds to different opportunities like shops, land areas, trading commodities, slowly increasing the market value of everything in the game. Even haircuts and facemask. Until then happy hunting and hoard as much CLD as you can.

CLD vs AUD vs BAD comparasion

Calypso Land Deeds vs Arkadia Underground Deeds vs Battle Arena Deeds.

We are getting a lot of options to invest our money into Entropia Universe now. If we don’t count the options where you have to work to make money there are 3 options now to invest money and get passive income without moving your finger. First came the Calypso Land Deeds, then the Arkadia Underground Deeds and in 2015 we can expect Battle Arena Deeds.

Let’s start with Arkadia Underground Deeds because Arkadia did mistake there that in my opinion make AUD less desirable than CLD. They said they won’t develop the underground anymore because this is not fair to owners of other land areas. But they said they will use the income from unsold deeds to advertise the underground. So with ever decreasing budged for advertisement and every time they introduce new land to Planet Arkadia one cannot hope for increase in the payout, but just the opposite – you can expect that AUD will pay less and less in the future.

Contrary the Calypso Land Deeds have the potential to increase the payout indefinitely. In reality the income from CLD is declining since they were introduced, but the hope and the dream that they will pay 5 PED or even 10 PED per week is always there.

So from CLD and AUD we can choose CLD. But it is hard to predict how the Battle Arena Deeds will perform. In the statement from MindArk we can see they used the magic line so the hopes and dreams are alive: “Revenues generated from the Battle Arena Deed offering will be used exclusively for Battle Arena development and marketing.”. That's what people want. To know that when you spend money to invest and play some will go for improving the gameplay and payouts for the deeds. The other plus of BAD is the price. It will be 10 times cheaper than the CLD. It is easy to deposit 10$ to buy BAD, but you have to deposit few months without playing to save for a CLD that cost 100$.

MindArk always seem to find something to sell that is better then everything you seen before in the game. But after they released CLD I was thinking that they are too good and there is no way they can come up with something better. But that Battle Arena Deeds may turn out to be better. It seems the future is in mobile devices and if we assume 20 000 – 30 000 people are playing Entropia Universe, that require powerful PC, it may turn out that 300 000 will play the mobile and web browser part of it. Or may be no one will play it. There is not much information at this point, but for sure we have interesting time before us in the next year or two.

And one more thing: They are ‘valuing’ that Web-Based Battle Arena 2 000 000 USD, they ‘valued’ Arkadia Underground to 2 000 000 USD too. I won’t say it is too much, but I’m starting to think they ‘sold’ Calypso too cheap, just for 6 000 000 USD. I think it was going to sold for 12 000 000 USD too.

And if you still don't know what the Battle Arena is:

A web-based Battle Arena game is planned for early 2015. The game will be developed as a cross-platform solution available on the web and for mobile devices, and will have direct ties to the Entropia Universe taming! system. Players will have the opportunity to acquire, upgrade and customise their pets for battle against the pets of others.

Entropia Universe participants will have the ability to acquire Battle Arena Deeds and share in the revenue and excitement of the Battle Arena action. 200,000 Battle Arena Deeds will be offered via the Entropia Universe in-game auction and upcoming webshop at 100 PED each. Revenues generated from the Battle Arena Deed offering will be used exclusively for Battle Arena development and marketing. More detailed information about the Battle Arena Deeds will be made available very soon.

Problems I see for Arkadia Underground Deeds

Problems I see for Arkadia Underground Deeds

While I think the idea for underground is good and also the releasing of Land Area where everyone can buy small share and get profit is also great I’m starting to think that investing in those deeds is not such a good idea. I also went to Arkadia and bought some of those deeds. And don’t get me wrong they have good side too.

Let’s start briefly with the positive side of the Arkadia Underground Land Deeds:

-The ROI is good, very similar to that of the Calypso Land Deeds. Sometimes I wonder how the fuck MindArk knew what will be the payout (and player activity) before they release Ark Deeds, so they make their price exactly where the ROI will be very close to CLD ROI. (ROI is Return of Investment)

-50 PED per deed. Low price so everyone can participate.

-5% tax from Arkadia Underground is way easy to understand than what 50% of Planet Calypso revenue means. The payouts of Arkadian Underground Deeds depends only from the activity in Arkadia Underground. The payouts of Calypso deeds depends from many factors and probably even the running costs of the planet. What if Calypso team buy new office in real life for 1 000 000 dollars? Is this going to lower the payouts of the deeds?

Basically this is the good side and now let’s try to systemize the negatives:

-Overpriced Land Area. Now this part is confusing for me too. There are Land areas for 10 000 – 20 000 - 30 000 USD, but this LA cost 1 000 000 USD (1 million American dollars). Some people said the first day its way overpriced. I tough what do you care if it gives good ROI and you don’t have to do nothing or invest in fertilizers, advertizing, events and such. Pure passive income. Just like CLD. But it is still over priced which leads to the next problem.

-Oversupply. We can only guess here, but it is very possible that Arkadia Underground Deeds (200 000 deeds, 5 USD each) will never sell. There will always be more people selling then buying and you can always get one for 50 PED from the deed broker. So you can’t expect to make money buying AUD for 50 PED and selling them for more, like it was with CLD. In fact today I sow people selling for less than 50 PED which means it will be hard for you to sell your deeds for even 50 PED. But if they valued the underground for less than 1 million dollars, let’s say they released 100k deeds for 5 USD each, that means the ROI of the AUD will be double that of the CLD and drop the CLD value to half. And make CLD and AUD best investment in the world.

-Not suitable for mining. At first I read that Arkadia Underground will have indoor mining logic, some sort of mining for skilled miners, like it is on FOMA. Where big players drop thousand of PEDs each day risking it big. Big risk – big reward system. This would guarantee big payouts of the deeds for long long time. But then I went to the underground to try mining. And I sow so many mobs there it was hard to drop a probe. I watched 2 YouTube videos of PigBenis and he was mining in sea of monsters. I don’t think heavy miners will like that.

-No future development of the land. This is also my guess, but I think it is reasonable to take the underground as it is now and not to hope for big improvement in the future. They build it – they sold it for 1 mill USD – they move on to the next project. This is probably the same for CLD. They got to the point where revenue of the planet was maxed and sold the CLD for 6 million USD knowing there won’t be more upgrades to the planet. By upgrade I mean more land where more people can play and spent more money contributing to the CLD payouts.

-Not uniqueness. I don’t know if there is such word, but what I mean is that once all AUD are sold (or even before that) Ark team can just build Underground 2 or Overground 1.

-Only ROI. Arkadia Underground Deeds may have ROI similar or even better than CLD, but CLD will offer 2 more candies for their owners. Landgrab and voting rights. And less important symbolic citizenship. While they are not even implemented in the game after 5-10 years they will be important part of the game. (If the game still exists).

In conclusion my personal opinion is to buy some Arkadia Underground Deeds, but not too much. If you have PEDs to invest – better buy CLD.

Disclaimer: Every line in this post is my personal opinion and may be very wrong. Investing big amount of money in video game is a huge risk. If you lose all your money following some of the advices on this blog all AxeMurderer can offer is a hug.

David: Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback, the team have been working 6-7 days a week for 5 months to bring Arkadia Underground in on schedule. I'm personally extremely proud of my team for what they have achieved in such a short period of time.
We have been working closely with Mindark to develop this new form of shared ownership, so my thanks to the team at MA for their efforts to also get this done on schedule.

The Arkadian vaults are linked to the treasure maps, so as per the release notes they will become operational next week following the patch. For Medeina, don't worry about your map, more will become available after the patch.

Just a note regarding the Vaults. The Vaults are great for the Land Area because the ensure a constant flow of participants visiting the Underground, however they are not taxed and therefore don't contribute directly to tax revenue.

Regarding the release of the deeds, we will begin listing them on auction in batches today. We'll make every effort to ensure they are listed at different times of the day to ensure everyone has a chance to buy some.

Are Arkadia Underground Deeds a good INVESTMENT

I like my CLD and the return they bring (current 20% is not the promised 30% but i still like them)
To anyone wanting to invest in Deeds in general i will make a small comparison and maybe prediction.

Where is the money coming from?
CLD - They give you 25% / 60,000 of global Calypso planet partner profit (which is based on decay and such)
AULD - Give you 5% / 200,000 of Arkadia Underground Loot that people get.

Discussion: No matter where the players of Calypso play and what they do they always generate cash for the CLD revenue stream. AULD benefits from all planets players that are actively engaged on the Underground Area (hunting mining shopping .. i don't know if crafting i don't think crafting is taxed.)

How much can we expect to earn?
CLD pay out and this is tested .. lets say an average of 3.84 ped per deed each week .. (sometimes its more sometimes less ... lets average to 20% ROI) .. that means if you invested 1000 ped in 1 deed after 5 years 5*52*3.84 you will see your cash back.
Now if you would like to buy CLD's now at a price ~1350 per deed they will still pay out 3.84 .. since we can't travel back in time (we should calculate at the current price) if you buy now your ROI is about 14.79% .. you get your ped back in 6 years and 9 months

To make AUG a sound investment:
they would have to pay out the same or better as CLD .. so 3.84 ped for each 1350 ped invested each deed would have to pay out 0.1422 ped (.. for this to happen the Land area would have tax the players 0.1422 * 200,000 = 28,440 ped)
So the total loot paid out would have to be 568,800 PED/week

Of course you can speculate the price of these will go up .. but how high will it rise? I think it depends only on how well they will do with pay outs...

To put things in perspective I got some data from Entropia Life:
http://www.entropialife.com/Planets.aspx?M=view&P=4 this page shows mining and hunting for the whole planet for the last 30 days ... today its 2,266,381 ped to make this into a weekly value 2266381/30*7 = 528,822 PED

528,822 This is for the WHOLE planet of Arkadia and its less than the required 568,800 for the underground to generate...

Of course Entropia Life does not take into account all the loot that is not Global or Hofed .. lets assume it amounts to double the initial value .. Arkadia is 9x bigger than the Underground .. but then the underground offers a FOMA/HELL type mining experience..

The question is will it be enough?
Or is it better to keep investing in CLD?

Please share your opinion .. I haven't made up my mind yet on this subject.
